Answers to Common Questions...
What's the big deal about "copyright compliance?"
Copyright laws are
in place to protect the intellectual property rights of authors, publishers,
musicians and anyone else that owns the rights to something they have
created. Copyright protection provides both intellectual and financial
incentive to those who create and publish the kinds of information that
we at BioDox retrieve for our clients.
Take away or undermine
that incentive, and the quantity and quality of published knowledge
would soon be diminished to the detriment of all.
BioDox is a member
of the Copyright Clearance Center's Transactional Reporting Service.
BioDox also engages in licensing directly with publishers.
Document requests are filled only in strict compliance with copyright
law and copyright fees will be charged as incurred, as per CCC or license
guidelines.

In the event that a rights holder is not registered
with the CCC, or has not granted a license to Biodox, permission can
be sought directly from the publisher or rights holder

What
libraries do you access? Can a catalog of holdings be searched before
ordering?
BioDox Document
Delivery Services is not limited to any single collection, but instead
makes use of a large number of sources throughout the United States,
Canada, and Europe. Because of this, the staff of BioDox provides rapid
sourcing and basic citation verification services at no additional cost
to the client.
However, if clients
wish to pre-verify holdings at any library in our source network, a
convenient list of web links can be provided with basic instructions
for use.

Can you
retrieve foreign articles?

the location and retrieval of foreign, and sometimes obscure, article
requests. We will search globally for your request, and can therefore
provide nearly any document regardless of origin.

How about
older information?
BioDox Document
Delivery Services can (and routinely does) provide copies of articles
going back into the 1800's. Unlike most commercial services, we do not
charge extra for this. Whether the required information is one month

does not offer in-house translation, we have established relationships

for most languages. Contact us directly to discuss your translation
needs.

What are
"clean copies" and can you supply them?
"Clean Copy"
refers to photocopies that are as close to original reprints as possible.
They are free of black borders, errant speckling, scratches, etc. Often
our clients need clean copies of documents in order submit them to regulatory
agencies like the FDA.
BioDox Document
Delivery Services is simply one of the best clean copy providers in
the industry. By using a combination of both old-fashioned hands-on
methods and new digital enhancement techniques, we can provide pristine,
clean copies of nearly any document.
TOP
Are color
copies available?
Color copies are
available for most requests. Exceptions may include requests that are
obtained from third-party vendors or distant libraries that have no
color duplication equipment available.
TOP
How does
one place a request?
Customers may submit
requests online, via email, or by fax. Customers
are encouraged to include as much detailed citation information as possible.
Telephone orders are not encouraged.
TOP
How can
requests be delivered?
BioDox will deliver
article requests by whatever mechanism is requested and allowable under
copyright law. In addition to the USPS, we enjoy daily pick-ups by all
major overnight couriers. Our close proximity to all major courier depots
at the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport allows us to drop
off shipments as late as 8:30 P.M. CST. Where allowable under licensing
agreements, high-resolution scanning allows us to deliver documents
as PDF's, TIFF's, or any other image type.
TOP
What is
your turnaround time?
Unlike most document
delivery companies, BioDox rarely turns out the lights at 5:00 P.M.
Our evening office hours mean that most requests submitted by our clients
are sourced on the same day they are submitted, and generally sent out
for retrieval the next business day. Highly competitive Rush and Super-Rush
services are available to further reduce turnaround times if required.
(Note: Office hours Monday through Friday 8AM - 6PM CST.)
TOP
Do you
charge for unfilled requests?
BioDox Delivery
Services will never charge for an unfilled request.
TOP
What if
a request is delayed or must be rejected?
Rapid sourcing and
retrieval means that clients know very quickly when there may be a problem
with a request. Both rejects and delays are communicated to clients
at the earliest opportunity. In the event the client wishes to cancel
the unfilled request, they may do so without incurring any charges.
TOP
Can customers
set "maximum cost" limits?
Our clients routinely
set maximum cost limits when establishing an account. BioDox staff will
notify any client when total estimated costs will exceed this limit
so that they may choose whether or not to proceed with the request.
In the unlikely event that an order exceeding cost limits continues
without authorization, BioDox will absorb all fees in excess of the
cost limit.
TOP
How does
your company bill its clients?
BioDox issues detailed
invoices to clients on a monthly basis. Invoices include an itemized
record of all requests for a given month, and can include the patron's
name, the client's internal order number, and publication title. If
additional information is required, we will gladly customize the invoice
as directed.
TOP
What about
confidentiality?
Client confidentiality
is assured. We understand the importance of confidentiality; especially
as it relates to the pharmaceutical industry. Only senior members of
our staff have access to client information, and at no time does specific
client information go with our runners to the libraries.
