Electronic Document Delivery
Q. What is “electronic document delivery?”
A. Electronic document delivery (E-DocDel) is a way of delivering requested documents directly to your desktop via the internet. Electronic delivery is fast, simple, and preserves document quality.
Q. What is secure electronic document delivery?
A. Secure document delivery allows us to rapidly deliver documents via the internet that still satisfy the copyright restrictions of publishers. Secure documents are encrypted and can only be opened and printed by the intended recipient.
Q. Why do I need a “plug-in” in order to download and view my articles?
A. To satisfy copyright restrictions, secure documents are digitally encrypted. The plug-in works with your
Adobe Acrobat Reader and acts as your unique key to open the articles you request. The plug-in is free, safe, easily installed, and comes from FileOpen Systems, a trusted Adobe Security Partner since 1997.
Q. Our IT people don’t like us to install plug-ins. What should I tell them?
A. Tell them the plug-in is from FileOpen Systems. FileOpen Systems is a leader in the area of secure document delivery and has been a licensed Adobe Security Partner since 1997. FileOpen Systems counts among their customers global companies like Pfizer, Deloitte, and Intel, as well as major publishers like Dow Jones, Wiley, Elsevier, and Time, Inc. Learn more about FileOpen Systems here.
Q. Is the plug-in hard to download and install? A. Installation is simple and only needs to be done once. In fact, if you order documents from other leading suppliers you may already have it in place. If not, Windows users can download it here. Mac, Linux, and Solaris users can find their appropriate plug-ins here.
Q. How do I know if my documents are ready?
A. You will receive an email notification for each document that you order.
Q. How long will my document be available?
A. Your document will be available for 2 weeks from the time you receive your delivery notice.
Q. I submit requests for several other individuals. Once I download the document can it be forwarded to the original requestor?
A. Your document can be forwarded so long as the recipient has installed the FileOpen plug-in. However, you SHOULD NOT open the document prior to forwarding. Remember- the document can only be opened and printed once.
Q. What if I have a problem with the download?
A. Just let us know. We’ll either reset the link or deliver the document in another manner.
